Flannel... of course! Best patches I've ever seen. These are the best gun cleaning patches I have ever seen. Most gun cleaning patches are made of thin regular cotton rags... much like a little piece of a white T-shirt.They are frayed on the ends, very thin, and not as absorbent as they ideally should be for gun-cleaning purposes. In contrast to that... these are "100% cotton flannel" so that have more of a "Jersey Knit" kind of feel to them. They are more absorbent because they are very slightly "fuzzy", though they do not pill or fray... they keep their integrity. This provides a bit more bulk to fill the gun barrel, so it picks up more debris on each pass through, and it will alsoholds more cleaner or oil, if you are using it for that purpose. You may find that you don't need quite as big a pieceof these flannel patches, as you might otherwise need when using the cheaper, thinner, "cotton T-shirt piece" varietyof gun cleaning patch material. The significant difference in quality between these flannel patches, and typical cotton patches is immediatelynoticed when you pick up the package and squeeze a few patches with your hands, or touch the surface ofthese patches. Once you have used these flannel patches... I don't think you will ever want to go back to themore common thin cotton variety of gun cleaning patches.Unless you are a professional gunsmith that goes through dozens of patches every day; the modest price differencebetween these top-quality flannel patches, and the cheaper thin cotton patches, really just amounts to pocket change.I also noticed that these patches are made in the USA. Very nice.
5fuctionThese patches are small patches, good for .22 bore cleaning and not much else. I guess I need to pay attention to the size next time. Oh, yeah, I did. I went to a local store and checked out the size before I bought them. I don't think I'll be buying these again simply because there are so many of them and I don't use them often. They are good for cleaning the bore of a .22 if that is what you want them for.
4Complete garbage, DO NOT BUYThe only good thing that can be said about these is that they are, in fact, almost 1" squares... almost. In addition to them threading apart, if you're using the thread-through style SLOTTED patch jag, especially with a pull-through cable instead of a push-through rod, they are WORTHLESS. After a long range day, 5 of them barely wiped out anything from the bore in a 16" 5.56/.223 barrel. Felt it was odd so I then ran through my last RealAvid cotton patch, and it came out nearly jet black -- after getting clean Professional Choice patches. Total garbage.I eventually just bought Birchwood Casey 2.25" patches and cut them in half, works way better for my cleaning procedure.
1Not too impressedLots & lots of lint... That in my honest opinion is the last thing you want to deal with when cleaning a firearm. These patches are lint to the nth degree, I'm not sure if maybe I got a bad batch or if maybe it was a bad reaction to the cleaning product I was using (M-Pro 7). Either was I don't know what I will use these for now. They don't cost enough to warrant a return, even though I did buy 2 different calibers/chamberings (9mm & 45 ACP)
2Awesome patches if using cotton flannel and not knit.I really like these cotton flannel patches. They do everything I need the cleaning patch to do and they do it at an affordable price. As I stated in one of my previous reviews on the 1x1" .22 patch the cotton knit patches are too thin in my opinion and I have a problem with tight fitting jags pushing through the patch. As I stated in the review the knit patch in .22 caliber was 11/4x11/4" and the slightly bigger size may have contributed to the failure but by far I will use the cotton flannel patches from here on out in all calibers. They are just flat out more beefy and take much more abuse than the cotton knit. They are thicker and feel much tougher. Don't hesitate in trying these patches. Order your correct size and clean away. The price is also a great value in my constant comparison of cleaning supplies. Order the big bags for an even greater value!!!!
5Great and affordable cleaning patches for my 9mm!When I got my gun I also purchased an Otis cleaning kit, knowing that what comes with a gun usually isn't worth the materials it's made from. Inside the Otis were 2" and 3" cleaning patches. They work, don't get me wrong, but that 1/4" difference makes a good bit of difference! With the 3" patches, if I wasn't careful, I'd bunch up the patch the wrong way and it'd get stuck or wouldn't even go down the barrel. With the 2.75" patches, it was much harder to make that mistake and I wound up with a much quicker and easier barrel cleaning. They are also very absorbent which I have found to be beneficial for maintenance because I don't want a small pond of oil ANYWHERE on my firearm and when I'm done cleaning it with these, the oiling is micro level - exactly how I want it. Clean and not overly oily.
5These are knit, not flannel - stretchy, not firm and too thin to be used by themselves.First and foremost, these are cotton knit, not cotton flannel. If you're looking for a non-stretch, thick and absorbent patch - keep looking. These patches stretch, which is not very good for those who need to pierce their patches for cleaning. They are also thin, so they do not work well in slotted rods either.Basically, I thought I was getting a great deal for the price and it turns out I have to use 2-3 of them stacked together for gun cleaning *and* another 2-3 for oiling. They do not leave lint behind for the most part, however they do sometimes unravel, leaving thin thread behind - not a helpful thing in a gun cleaning patch.Overall, I would highly recommend going with something that costs a little more and is honest 100% cotton FLANNEL - you will not be disappointed and your guns will thank you.
2These are not flannel like the description says. The product description says these are " Premium Quality 100% flannel cotton." These are not flannel, they are knit. The cotton material is flimsy and stretches. As a result my jag punches through the patch often causing the patch to lodge somewhere in the barrel. A simple barrel cleaning process turned into an extremely frustrating hassle. I wasted at least an hour at the range today doing a new barrel break-in cleaning between my first 10 or so shots. Ultimately, the only way i could use these was to pre-stretch them and fold them in half. At this point they became marginally reliable. I would not recommend these. Look for a flannel patch. These most certainly would not be the choice of professionals.
1Cheap, thin, non absorbentThe bore cleaning solvents when put on the patch just sits on top like they have been Scotch Guarded. I needed to put on a set of gloves to rub the chemicals into the patch. They are thin, If you want to buy a quality patch try the Brownells patches from their web sight- even better is the Buthches bore shine patches, right after I bought these crappy patches I purchased the Butches Bore Shine patches. They are the best patches I have ever used. They are thick, ribbed, and absorb bore cleaner and oils fast - the Butches Bore Shine patches Grabbed carbon left in the barrel these patches left behind. I was impressed.
1... Want to clean something? Lint. Lint everywhere.Way too much lint! These patches, when they stay together, are great. They absorb solvent or oil just fine and spread liquids well. The problem stems from any real work you may do with them.(Note: When I say lint below, I really mean that the cloth decompresses, the edges fray, and the threads that make up the cloth detach)Running them through the bore? Lint.Heck, threading them onto a patch holder? Lint.Attempting to clean any fouling in the chamber? Lint.Cleaning behind the ejector? Lint. For now, I only use them for light work. While they were cheap, they are not worth it as you need to clean them off of whatever you are cleaning.
