Does nothing to protect the hinge of the New 3DS, but fits like a glove and makes it easier to find the hidden stylus. The first thing I did when I bought a new Nintendo model New 3DS XL was to search for a hard shell for it. My favorite color is black, so I wanted a black case. Also, I didn't want to pay too much, and the TNP case was appropriately-priced at $12. It was easy to get onto my New 3DS XL, and it is a snug fit. It adds a slight amount of bulk to the package, but that just makes it easier to hold for larger hands. Everything you need is easily accessible, such as the 3D slider, volume slider, and stylus. In fact, I was new to the 3DS and had a difficult time finding the stylus without the case. It is flush with the outside of the 3DS, so I had to flip it over and look to find where the stylus was located. With this case, it is easy to feel for where the stylus is because there is a gap in the clamshell, so that is a pretty big plus for me. The cameras are also uncovered, so you won't have any problems taking pictures. The only flaw I found with this product is that it does not cover the back of the 3DS in any way. If you drop your 3DS on any of the other sides, the case will do a good job of protecting it I believe, but if it hits the hinge side, it has no protection. Due to the way the 3DS is made, I don't see any way to offer protection to this vulnerable hinge, so I'm not subtracting a star for the vulnerability. Using this case is still better than not using any case at all, it's just not perfect protection like an Otterbox Defender phone case would be for example. Still, I'd recommend it to anyone who likes the black aesthetic like I do. 5/5 stars. If you found this review helpful, please show some love by clicking the "Yes" button below. If not, click No . Thanks for reading!5New hinge-less version of the aluminum shell.A lot of the reviews on this product are not for the new version or are for the clear shell. This review is for the new version aluminum shell. The product comes in two pieces that snap on securely with very little effort. All ports and buttons are easy to access. The power button is covered by a plastic flap that still allows you to turn the system on.They have done away with the flimsy hinges that plagued the previous version of this product. The protection this offers is limited to scratch and scuffs as his provides little to no shock and drop protection. It looks and feels great in your hands. The only negative is that there is a strip of plastic fake leather like material that looks grey in the picture is a shiny leathery/brown color (see photo). This looks out of place, but it does match with my SF bags case. It seems like it could peel off though. I might try it at some point.I hope this has helped clear up some of the misinformation on this product.4Perfect Fit, Crystal Clear, Protect Your Vinyl Stickers!Fits perfectly. Looks great and it is "clear"! I bought this because I am planning to add vinyl graphics to my 3dsxl and I did not want them to get damaged; I wanted a hard clear shell so I could still see them through the shell. I have not applied them yet but it is obvious that this shell is going to do exactly what I needed it to do. It's very clear and fits it so well that it does not move around at all. There is absolutely zero wiggle or warpage when attached to the 3dsxl. By that I mean it does not move nor does it have any gap across the main body when pressed down on, it sits perfectly flat against the unit across the top, bottom, and edges. There are also cutouts in all the proper places, Gamecard Slot, Headphone Jack, Stylus (actually makes it easier to find the stylus in the dark if your using the one stored inside the unit, I prefer the larger pen stylus I got free with my awesome Takecase brand storage case), Power Button, 3D Slider, Volume Slider, & External Cameras,I suggest you take your time when applying, I could not get one corner to lock into place and when I started to get frustrated I knew if I tried to force it i would end up cracking it so I took a deep breath, removed the piece (bottom), and re-seated it on the unit and it went on perfectly that time and locked into place. You will hear a clicking sound when the locking ridges engage and you can also see them, so if they are not engaging, do what I did and remove and retry. It is just plastic and it wouldnt shock me if it cracked with not that much force. As I stated above I got it to protect my vinyl graphics more than I did to protect the unit.It will surely protect the outside from getting scratched and may end up cracking if dropped on a hard surface from a few feet but I'd rather have the shell crack which would absorb and defuse that kinetic energy, leaving the unit ending up just fine. That is just my opinion and I am also basing that on dropping a closed 3dsxl or if it landed on a side or corner. It does not cover the rear/hinges area which I actually like because the Z controls would be harder to press if the case surrounded them, this also means the power socket is not blocked by the case as well. If the unit is dropped when open and it lands face down than the shell will offer no extra protection (hopefully you have added glass screen protectors) as it only covers almost all of the outside except the very rear. It also has little nubs on the bottom so when you place the system down then the shell should not be touching the surface of what it is sitting on.Bottom line for the price this is a must buy in my opinion, vinyls or not, they have other colors, but if you have or plan to use vinyls than you really want this case.5Good quality material but poor cut outs.I love these TNP clear cases for the 3ds simply because it is hard shell plastic that doesnt yellow as much as the rubber silicone ones like the Hori or Insignia (although they themselves make other good products) and the fact that they dont feel like cheap plastic similar to the ones that are with hinges and cost less. The only reason I deducted stars is because the cut out is quite strange. I had previously own the small size New3DS 20thpokemon edition and the case is just right and tight but with the New3DSXl, the edges of the case are raised instead of even with the system.I dont know if the XL versions are suppose to be like that or these new productions of the cases are defective but it starts to leave marks on my palms so overall it's not what I had in mind when I purchased this, given I was looking forward to it for my 3dsxl.A took a picture to show both and if you look closely on the edges of the black one being the XL, you can see how thick and uneven the cut out is for the 3ds itself.3Best case to protect your beloved 3DS system, bar noneTested this vs the softer Hori case and the Hori annoyed me in a few ways:1. Hori was already yellowing out of the box. If you have a white 3DS system like mine, it kinda looks like crap. No yellowing with TNP2. Hori case clouded up the emblems of my Fire Emblem system vs the TNP is completely clear3. Hori case slid off easil on the edges of the 3DS vs the TNP clamps on and does not move, at all.Downsides?1. TNP will scratch pretty easily due to polycarb, but better then your 3DS right?2. It will creak somewhat if you apply pressure to the case3. It somewhat will dig into your palm on the edges of case from prolong gaming4. A hard drop/hit will crack the case easily but again, better then your 3DS right?5Meh.Just received my case today and not very happy with the product as the top is starting to peel off as the photos show. Otherwise a solid case and would've enjoyed it if it wasn't already defective. Photos show the difference in one side opposed to the other. Would recommend other options that don't rely on glue.1- It looks great - It fits great - It is easy to ...Pros:- It looks great- It fits great- It is easy to put on- It feels niceCons- The hinges are cheap plastic.- Since most of the case is aluminum, it interferes with wifi signal.- It's slippery if your hand sweats.Firstly, everyone who says this case does not fit probably didn't do their research before buying this case. There is a difference between "3DS XL" and "NEW 3DS XL". The New 3DS XL is shaped different than the old one, so the New 3DS XL cases will not fit old 3DS XL. The title clearly states this is "New 3DS XL" case, and yet some people are giving this case bad review because it "doesn't fit what it is advertised to fit". Well they are wrong, it is advertised to fit the NEW 3DS XL and it fits snug as a bug. I have pictures to prove it. People who say it doesn't fit more than likely have an old 3DS XL. Either that or they somehow got the wrong case.Anyways, that aside, I'm not sure I would recommend this case. The hinges are so cheap that I have no doubt they will break (like many of the reviews state). Mine has not broken yet (and I've had it since December) but I will not be surprised if they do. They would probably be easy to fix with some super glue, so if you really like the look of this case (it does look great imo) then you could take your chances and glue them if they break, but I would think by now there are better options for cases. When I bought this case I needed something to protect my New 3DS ASAP and there weren't many choices so I went with this.I don't use the Wifi on my New 3DS XL very often so the fact that this case interferes doesn't bother me too much, but because I know most people use the Wifi a lot I don't think you would be too happy with this case. Also if your hands sweat a lot, beware. Mine don't so it's not a problem. If you are willing to take a chance with the hinges and you don't use the wifi too much, then it is a pretty good case imo. Personally I think there are probably much better options out there, but if there aren't (I haven't really looked around), this case is certainly better than nothing.3Great quality! This case fits the new 3DS Xl PERFECTLY! It's snug and snaps onto it well! There was protective film on the bottom and top halves so it didn't get scratched in transit. If you have a limited edition new 3DS XL console such as the pikachu new 3ds xl, snes new 3DS XL, majoras mask new 3ds xl, etc it will look amazing with this! Just be sure to wipe off any smudges/lint before you put on this case otherwise it will be trapped underneath. I recommend getting a screen protector pack because it comes with a microfiber cloth which you case use before you put on your case. I give this case a solid 10/10! If you were looking at one of those hori duraflexi covers like I was, just get one of these cases and you can thank me later (plus you'll save yourself a few bucks).5Almost perfect. The fit in my New 3DS XL is perfect. This protects the finish on my Special Edition New 3DS XL from chops and scratches and adds a slight bit of extra grip for long play sessions.I found that the pieces covering the power button would not press the power button no matter how hard I pushed on it. I used a utility knife and trimmed the button cover off. I can now press the power button with the stylus as needed. An easy fix for a minor problem.4New Clear Sturdy Case for a New 3DS XL/LLSerious Review; Puns intendedLike the title says, it's new, it's clear, and it's sturdy. It snaps onto the New 3DS XL/LL and fits perfectly, none of that wobbly bullshit. The hinge is exposed as expected. The edge of the case has a clean cut but a few bits of plastic here and there which you can snip or sand off. Because of the tight fit (that's what she said) it leaves a 'wet' look where the console touches the case. The case doesn't come in a box, just a Styrofoam poach but it is wrapped in a sealed plastic protector that protects it from scratches, you can peel it off before attaching the case to the 3DS. It does makes the 3DS more bulkier but it's worth it for the protection value added... Unless u have a spare $200 burning a hole in your pocket to buy a new 3DS, than this case isn't t made for you folks... Also, Made in China.tl;drClear, sturdy case for the New 3DS XL/LLTight fit so it has a 'wet' look at where the case touches the 3DSHinges are exposed but that's expectedMade in China5
